Richard QuinnWhat an amazing great character! I spoke with Mr. Richard Quinn in a pretty relaxed way, at first I wasn´t aware he was actually the designer (zero on face recognition for me!). If you have an opportunity to talk to him, he is quite cool, I guess I´m also fond of him cause he reminded me of an old friend from Argentina. The thing is I was pretty mesmerized with the items hanging on the rail... oh gosh, those prints... and the dresses had this flair of fifties sixties, big floral patters, heavy fabric... oh how I wish some of them were hanging on my wardrobe... AlzúarrAlzúarr Shock by shoes! There is no other way to describe the situation here. I dared to ask the beautiful lady (think a young and smart dressed Penelope Cruz type of woman here), nearby the amazing collection of shoes, for a moment I wondered if she was indeed the designer and she was!, so I just shot lots of questions, did't want to miss any details. In a nutshell "I create shoes for the poweful woman", and she does, her name is Zeynep Dag. The collection is a luxury for the eyes and each piece calls you to strike a POWER pose in them! Vinti AndrewsI was drawn by the vintage Ralph Lauren suit, repurposed and revisited with the intention of merging the city lady with the urban lady... I think is a fantastic achievement, also suits are one of my very soft spots when it comes to dressing up. Didn't have the chance to actually talk to the designers. This excellent brand is a collaboration between Vinti Tan and Paul Andrews, but, I'm aiming to send some questions and if possible visit their studio in London. They've been around for quite some time and the ethos behing their brand is so very impressive. And as always, be cool, be great, be yourself!
So here I am, London Fashion Week has finished. I'm sad and wishing really hard to be able to work within the fashion industry full time.
But focusing on the positive and enlightening experience the past four days were in a chronological order to my experience. I found that the collection presented by Dr. Pam Hogg, was challenging and disruptive, almost as been immerse in a colorful and exotic cirque, where the bright colors and shapes and textures that crawl onto the models bodies. It's almost like John Waters would create fashion. I just want to finish this post with a phrase from her Ted Talk which I believe sums up her work: "I allow my ideas to collide and take me somewhere I never dream off". As I confess on the post I did talking about her show, it wasn't possible for me to make any photos. But I'm using some from LFW website.
On Sunday I attended the presentation from Steven Tai. Have to admit that deeply enjoyed the censorial experience. There was a "beach like" set up and you could walk around and across the scenario where the models would have a chilled or amused attitude: dancing to the music, snapping photos of the audience and they would change positions across the different spots.
Now, when thinking about the collection, it's filled with light and beautiful elements that put the mindset on an eternal summer state. Stripes mixed with bright colours in asimetric garments, an authentic delight.
ON|OFF Presents...
This Catwalk was so exciting as well. Talented younger(ish) creators, bringing to life spectacular pieces of work. I will allow the art talk by itself, please see the videos below. Just a quick recap, because I also hope to get individual interviews with each designer, to share their creative process here.
Hope you enjoyed this post and please comment on your experience about London Fashion Week or your ideas about this post!
BE COOL, BE GREAT, BE YOURSELF...
I must confess, didn't bring the camera... so lame for a blogger! But anyhow, it was so super amazing! I am very impressed with the collection: a distopian, sexy and colorful style. Below my absolute favourite piece:
Pam Hogg is a very powerful and eclectic creative force, she has an impressive life: fashion designer, musician and filmmaker, in a word she is an amazing ARTIST..
Found some great photos on Getty Images, so check then runway
Hello hello again. It seems I can't keep my promise with ocklo.com, but actually I try really hard. Life and work gets busier and busier. Anyhow passion for fashion does not fade away. Oh how I wish I could be at this year NYFW, it ends today!, not that I have ever attend to it, but hey, I'm glad there's internet and lots of info about it... it doesn't feel like I lost everything. HERE some HIGHLIGHTS on what I've found super interesting: Alexander Wang, I love him, my latest post about him was some time ago. This new season Mr Wang created, I'm sure along with great other people on his team, the #WANGFEST quite a cool way to take the runway out of place, were models made their entrance onto the street runway from a party bus, whilst onlookers watched from behind metal barriers on the sidewalk. New York Fashion Week: First Stage, this is a great initiative to help launch global designers into the international market, I'm super excited about it! Several great Designers had a go this year... my fav are: David Ferreira, Portugal-based womenswear designer JUST IN CASE= Designer Justin, Yu-Ying Chou, brings so much energy. I love his views on street style brought into the runway. Hope you enjoy this post, there is so much more to say and mostly explore about the new season. Would love to hear your comments and impressions about NYFW and fashion and trends in general! :)
Be Cool, Be Great, Be Yourself! Today's post is so interesting. I got an excluive interview with a great designer who lives in Madrid... Andreas, the mind and creativity behind MONTAG 73.
So... Who is Andreas? I know he is from Vienna and that he landed in Madrid and felt for the city and it's people. Also he has work for big brands such as Gaultier, but: How did the journey with Montag 73 begun and when? “Well, all the story started in December 2013. I was thinking of my future after having decided to put an end to my previous adventure, and suddenly, a clear picture in my head, that of an original patchwork male bag, mix of scraps of cotton patterned camouflage and imitation leather, engraved with skulls that I had bought on my last trip to Paris without knowing then very well why I had felt the need to buy them. I sat down to draw…and voilà! I had the first shopping bag in front of my eyes. The next day, with the help of a sewing friend, my night design becomes real. Proud of my work, I share the photo of my bag in Instagram. And in a very short time, I start to receive many “likes” and positive comments on my bag photo, and also people asking me how they could buy it. That was the start of how I decided to launch my business in the fashion sector through Instagram as I discovered the strong potential of that social network, allowing to show your work through artistic and different photos, and getting in touch with thousands of people in a second. And Instagram as a platform based on photos is really transparent and that is so important to me! “ What where the particular challenges you encountered when starting Montag 73? We had to face many challenges: finding good partners for the production of my designs and giving priority to quality, exclusivity and made in Spain; creating an attractive web, representing the image of our brand and philosophy, and at the same time increasing our presence in all social network; offering a good service in transport (quick and efficient) through a logistic partner and the most important, getting quickly many fans of Montag73 to convert them in faithful clients and prescribers. All this had to be also done with repercussion in Media (TV, Press – paper and digital – and bloggers). It had to go quickly and we had to multiply contacts in fashion sector, challenge which is still the present one. How do you understand the fashion industry in terms of on line distribution? I think that online distribution is great for new designers in order to reach a global public at a competitive price as long as you offer a good quality and different product . It is a perfect way to offer fashion out of standardization, to show to many people the individual creative spontaneity vs the feeling of “obligation” to follow the trends. But getting to be known in different countries is not that easy as multiple brands have appeared in fashion through that online distribution and the offer is huge. And big groups in fashion are pushing their presence in internet with online shopping and the system is always in favour of the strongest when we speak of Marketing online (Google monopoly also) Tell us a bit more about the exclusive designs, most of the sneakers are produce only in 50 pairs, how? why? I wanted to offer an exclusive product at affordable price, and this is why we choose to produce only 50 pairs per model. The friends & fans of Montag73 (because they are more than clients) enjoy walking different with our shoes and are proud of what they wear. Montag73 is reflecting their own personality and they share with me the taste for elegant and casual pieces. This is a new concept of sneakers that you can wear in any occasion. Do you believe or are interested in the "agender" concept when it comes to fashion? If so, why? Yes, definitely. Our bags are “agender” and some of our shoes also. Men and women can share the same taste for many fashion articles and just feeling is the important. The sensitivity is not a question of gender, but much more a question of personality. How would you describe the people that works behind Montag 73? Passionate people. Passion for people, creativity, fashion, quality, and solidarity. When working in a new collection: Do you plan in advance, do you go by muse and inspiration? My process of creation is not at all planned and has all to do with inspiration : music, unplanned meetings with other artists, friends or unknown people, and my states of mind. This is difficult to explain as it has to do with my intimate and personal feelings that I do not really control. It comes to me as an evidence and a vital need. How would you describe the soul of what you do in one word? Art of Love. I hope you enjoyed learning the details behind MONTAG 73, for me has been a privilege to have the opportunity of this interview with Andreas. Do not miss to see the entire collection on the website! Enjoy! Be cool, be great, be yourself! Since I was a girl, one of my absolute favourite sneakers have been Adidas. I still remember ones I had on my early twenties, those were pretty classic: white leather with bordeaux stripes... I wore them to so many concerts and festivals, that there was no comming back from that... I still have them... Cannot wear them anymore though :(
A few weeks ago, I stopped suddenly by a shop window and stare like a crazy person, I could not believe all the beautifull and strong colors on Adidas sneakers. Later that day I discover the truth, there are 50 different colors, what an exciment. I NEED all of them, that would be incredible, cannot stop thinking on all of the different outfit combinations I could accomplished and OF COURSE I most definetely would use a pair of different colors. What do you think of this new collection? Be Cool, Be Great, Be Yourself! Post en expañol aquí =)Again this year had the awesome opportunity to do an interview with the designers of KILLING COUTURE...
I have to say, I love this indie spanish brand... the designers are great creative women who work together and bring every season something unique and affordable into this fashion world. What are the elements that inspire this collection? The Old Fashioned collection is inspired by independent women and women of the 50s, Mad Men style. Women who usually worked in offices in a man's world: pencil skirts, plain fabrics, clean cuts, masculine details ... How has the creative process evolved from the fisrt collection to this last one? The methodology is always the same, brainstorming to generate the overall concept of the collection, selection of models, colors or printed then think where appropriate, patronar and make prototypes. The models are generated by putting ideas into common and if looking for information on the topic we have chosen and technical corrections of the garment are made on the fly. Are there any new sources of inspiration? For this collection the inspiration comes from working women of the 50s, and we have inspired so proper way to dress had somehow assimilated to men, but without losing the feminine touch. Hope, dear readers you enjoy it! (^-^) Post en expañol aquí =)Dear readers! I cannot express in words the amount of exciment I have for the documentary. Whe the two worlds I adore the most colide, I feel in extasis... "Iris" the feature documentary directed by Albert Maysles is something I'm looking forward to see for quite a few months now! The fact that Magnolia Pictures has picked it up for sales it's great because it surely means is going to have a great and wide distribution, so more people will be able to watch it!
I would love to hear your comments whenever you see "Iris"! (^-^) Hello there! I´m pretty sure that you are as much excited as I am for this new collaboration, between Alexander Wang and H&M. A few months ago I posted about here. The greatest stuff about it is that all the items in the collection have this sporty look, I´m also daring to say comfy and from the words of Mr. Wang himself all of the gadgets can be use in each sport... This collection is very glam for a casual friday and a girls night out, but also for keeping all this hours of fitness with a great outfit. You can see the all event and the twitter feed here This are my favourites! And which ones are yours? Post en expañol aquí =) Recently, I´ve learn that the lovely and strange Kelly Osbourne, was about to lanch "Stories", her own and unique designs for every girl outthere.... and It´s resfreshing... mostly after the huge failaure of Violeta by Mango... does anybody likes that part of the brand? I most certainly don´t think so...
Instead Kelly, has thrive on releasing a great collection that will actually is launching today 25th September 2014... I suggest everybody to take a look... it is vital to tell you it's a bit expensive.... still I'll have to try on the quality, but so far so good! |
