I was desperatly consuming one of my fav blogs when I was prompt to a link for an Auction website, and it turned out to be fantastic Kerry Taylor Auctions browsing there and going a bit mad, it was an intespestive time in the middle ofthe night, I discovered the designs of Jean Muir... and felt completely for her and her designs. Lot 18 : A group of Jean Muir dresses and separates, 1970s.A group of Jean Muir dresses and separates, 1970s. labelled, approx 8 ensembles, including a medieval print chiffon blouse; brown jersey shirt with matching hat; together with an exhibition catalogue and newspaper clippings relating to her work; and others, various sizes. Jean Elizabeth Muir, (17 July 1928 – 28 May 1995) was a British fashion designer. From Scottish ancestry. "The clothes in themselves do not make a statement. The woman makes a statement and the dress helps."It was all about formality, hence the title of this post. According to several sources there are interesting facts about her, she preferred to be called a dressmaker. She was also a perfectionist, when it came down to her craft, but her personal life was quite unconventional and interesting as well, not from a "paparazzi" perspective but to try to grasp the most comprehensive understanding of who she was and how it reflected or not in her creations. She had a signature material, Jersey, (as Gabrielle Chanel did) it can be seen on many of her creations. Particular care was issued when it came to printing the fabric, she favoured subtle patterns on matte jersey. The style, details and certain sobriety of her designs along with an input of classic femininity make me think that COS could be a great fit as a retailer space for Miss Muir brand if it was still around. She was a focus talented woman who gave her talent to enhance and fortify femininity. There are, as I mentioned above, lots of possibilities to get your hands on some of Miss Muir creations, I'm working my way to it, a blazer perhaps. And finally dear reader I would enjoy very much to know what you think about the post and Miss Muir as well! |
